workin on the game (in between my actual job). i have all the assets made, now im just breaking and fixing code over and over. here's what it looks like right now, lol:
i need to reduce the file sizes of everything, add another button to customize backgrounds, add .gifs and make frames for the menus. i was telling joe, it's usually pretty hard for me to find the middle ground with my attention span- i'm either obsessed and can't do anything else, or i drop it and forget i ever started. i'm definitely in the latter camp here because i'm trying to finish!! i feel like i'm racing my own attention span all the time. it makes me work sort of quickly before i hit the eventual crash.

Went to Amoeba and got a tape of kenneth anger films (it's the part 2 in the collection, and it includes Rabbit's Moon, Eaux d'Artifice and Scorpio Rising). I also grabbed a comics doc called Comic Book Confidential.
I've been making a dress up game for the band site, but i took a break from it today and surfed for more .gifs and dug into some old christian website archives and found TONS of old graphics- I'm not sure what I'll do with these, but I was intrigued and disturbed by some of the late 90s/early 00s fundie crap i found. here are some good ones:

evangelical bush administration era fundie stuff is kinda funny and kinda scary. it's wild how visibly it changes and shifts and ramps up and how that reflects in their propaganda/programming online. the homeschooling/"unschooling" movement isolated these families more, and maybe because of this isolation it seemed to create a few technologically hyperliterate kids. hopefully it helped them find ways out. i found this really interesting. christian nationalism is violent and tragic.
I watched Sweetie (1989) dir by Jane Campion, while I drew a dog for Joe's friends that are having a funeral for that dog tomorrow. I found a VHS tape copy at green apple books, and the cashier told me "I've heard this is great, tell me how it is!" Well, it was definitely effective like. tonally. I felt pretty sick the entire time. It's visually really intense and dark and cross-processed which i think added to the nausea (i'm not going to spoil it by elaborating).
i really, really liked it, but did not enjoy watching it. I'm going to keep going with the Campion films, I think I'll try to find a tape or a stream of Two Friends from 1986. I like watching whole filmographies by director, but in whatever order. I finally got around to watching most of John Waters' last month- I had only seen Crybaby and Pink Flamingos.
earlier today I went down to San Jose for band practice, and we wrote a new thing! I'm stoked, we haven't written anything new all together since the last record, and i really like the direction we're walkin in. i wrote it initially right after we got home from tour with algernon and walter etc. That tour in particular changed some life-stuff pretty radically for me, and i wrote a song about it in an effort to make the changes "stick" and fight off some post-tour depression (it hella didn't work, but most of the feelings stuck). I try not to write tour songs- i forget where i read that or if someone said it, but i heard someone say one time "nobody wants to hear songs about tour". I think that might be true, mostly, because tour can rock but its also like writing about going on a rly rushed road trip. slim jims n state names. but sometimes whatever comes out comes out!
I've been thinking about post-social media monocultural flattening, the drain of regionalism/locality, how a corporate desire 4 hyper-relatability in music/art often sacrifices the interesting/good stuff about home/friends/family/yr favorite diner/the corner store where you buy gatorade and we're just left with a bunch of low-risk mushy feelings that don't mean anything, that don't stick to any real places or people. i like when songwriters talk about where they're from, where they grew up, where theyre writing the song.
Like: jason molina sounds like ohio. malkmus sounds like northern CA but somehow also sounds like jersey. sometimes stuff sounds like its from a flat plane floating in space. all whispery n shit, maybe bc they live in a bus on the ROAD! maybe they don't have a corner store where they say hi to anyone. or actually, i think most people do, and i'd rather hear about that, do you know what i mean
Ok! I redid the blog background. I'm watching an episode of 48 hours and making the newspaper, my brother is cooking eggs. my newspaper job is the worst on thursdays, i'm stuck at a desk for the full 10 hours waiting on edits- with my other papers I can usually escape for a few hours, but on thursdays i barely go outside until dark, which is kinda rough.
anyways, i've been thinking that i kind of want a handycam, or maybe one of the cheaper DJI cameras so i can take videos on tour. i wrote a line yesterday about how i think i'd be happier if i lived in a pink house.
This is my first blog post. I'm still experimenting with the graphics and stuff on here, it's been so fun. I forgot how much I love coding and making webpages. I want to make a page with only hand-drawn graphics that is a clickable living room or bedroom, next. I'm watching recaps of the drag race all stars finale and saving 100,000 pngs and gifs. It's scratching a hoarding/thrifting itch that's usually pretty hard to alternatively scratch. I love digging through old graphics archives.
I'm not sure if i'll keep the blog this way, since the paper ends. I might make the paper graphic static and the text box scrollable. Today I got windshield wiper replacements and an air filter for my car, went to Other Avenues and bought carrots and lemon bars, listened to a podcast episode about neocities and the indie web by "Curiouser and curiouser", and made spaghetti and grilled veggies. Joe made shelves for the kitchen and I cleaned the living room windows.
Yesterday, we played a show with Have a Good Season, Fieldrush and Big Kids at the Planetarium in Richmond
